Build-to-let landlord begins charging tenants £600 a year to keep pets

first_imgWhile many letting agents and landlords shun tenants with pets, one large build-to-rent operator  is welcoming those with dogs and cats, although it comes at a price.Following the recent national Love You Pet Day, Tipi has revealed that it is to charge tenants £600 a year to house their pooches, £360 per cat and £600 for two cats at its Landsby development at Wembley Park in North London.Pet-owning tenants will also be required to sign a pet licence, although they will not have to pay an additional rental deposit.Tipi says a ‘large majority’ of the developments within its Wembley Park site, which includes several still under construction, will welcome pets. Also, sections of some developments will remain pet free in order to provide “something for people with allergies or who don’t like dogs”.Rajesh Shah, Tipi’s Managing Director (left), says: “For too long, those living in rented accommodation have been unable to keep pets.“At Tipi, we wanted to change that. We wanted to give our residents the freedom to enjoy the companionship that pet ownership can bring – so we made Landsby our first pet-friendly building and are delighted to have already welcomed plenty of four-legged residents to their new homes.”The extra rent will buy tenants more than just the right to live with their pets  at the 295-apartment development. Staff at the apartment block close to the famous Wembley Stadium are also to organise ‘pet socials’ where  tenants and their pets can meet up.pets rajesh shah tipi Wembley February 25, 2019Nigel LewisWhat’s your opinion?
