One dead in tractor-trailer involved crash in Kirkwood

UPDATE: KIRKWOOD (WBNG) — The Broome County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of Friday morning’s crash as 80-year-old David J. Sheeran of Yonkers, N.Y. Authorities did not release the name of the driver of the car. KIRKWOOD (WBNG) — The Broome County Sheriff’s Office says the car involved in the crash pulled in front of the tractor-trailer from the shoulder of the road. Stay with us here on 12 News for any updates throughout the day. 9:44 A.M. UPDATE: KIRKWOOD (WBNG) — One person is dead after an early-morning tractor-trailer crash in Kirkwood. It happened around 4:30 a.m. Friday on I-81 southbound near Exit 1. Multiple emergency crews were on the scene including New York State Police, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and Five Mile Point Fire Department. The sheriff’s office says the car pulled in front of the tractor-trailer “without warning.” According to the Broome County Sheriff’s office, a preliminary investigation shows that the tractor-trailer was traveling on I-81 northbound, crossed over the median and hit the car, traveling on I-81 southbound, head-on. The tractor-trailer then took out a highway sign, before stopping in a wooded area with the car still pinned to the front of the truck.last_img
