first_imgWorld Poetry Day award winner, Lekpele Nyamalon, will launch his poetry debut collection, “Yearnings of a Traveler”, at 6 p.m. April 1 at the Corina Hotel in Sinkor. The book offers readers insight into the poet’s travel experiences. It expresses the cultural values and norms of people he met and the ills he observed affecting people and society at large.“Yearnings of a Traveler” inspires and stirs the mind of the reader to go beyond the poet’s thinking and experiences to create an image of the story in one’s own mind. The book features exactly 25 inspirational poems, including the award winning “Forgotten Future”, which portrays the African setting with its past and describes the suffering of our young boys and girls, pleading for their freedom and dignity.“My Body Is Gold”, a poem published in the Daily Observer and dedicated as part of his contribution to ending violence against women, is also featured. In a short interview with LIB Life, Nyamalon explained that after many people had read his work in the newspaper and other informative media, he was then encouraged to compile a collection. When asked the reason behind the book’s title, “Yearnings of a Traveler”, his reply was, “I’m a traveler, and we all as humans love to travel. Some of my journeys were dreadful, and others were not.“I gave the book that name because it will help readers understand my travel experiences, but in a more poetic way so that it can stir and inspire the mind,” he explained. The young poet believes his collection will add value and shape the poetry landscape in Liberia. The launch is scheduled to take place April 1st at Corina Hotel in Sinkor at 6 p.m. Copies of the book will be sold for US$15 each.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img
