Need a Mobile Web App Template? Mobile Boilerplate 1.0 is Here

first_imgWhy IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces sarah perez Mobile Boilerplate 1.0 has just launched, providing developers with a trusted template for building mobile Web applications. The site provides templates and documentation that can help developers create cross-platform mobile Web applications which work on modern-day smartphones, but also offer fall-back support for older BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile devices. The project itself is not a standalone framework, but works with jQuery Mobile, Sencha Touch, Phonegap and Appcelerator. The homepage for the project showcases two hilariously, but accurately, titled lists: “Why It is Awesome” and “Why It is Aweome-er.” Both detail the many features provided by this new toolkit, such as:Cross-platform compatible (Android, iOS, Blackberry, Symbian)CSS class to target IE Mobile 7Home screen icon (Android, iOS, Symbian)Cross browser viewport optimization for Android,iOS,IE,Nokia,Blackberry, OperaOptimized viewport scaling (Android, iOS, Mobile IE, Blackberry, Opera)Option to enable iOS start-screen in full screen modeBetter font rendering on IE MobileAdaptable markup and CSS skeletonCSS stylesheet for low-end devicesMobile sitemapMobile MIME type supportBuild tool for mobileIntegrates well with PhoneGap and Appcelerator And then, the “awesome-er” features like: Tags:#apps#How To#mobile#news Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Not a Framework & Not a “Build Once, Deploy to 1000+ Devices” SolutionTo be clear, the Mobile Boilerplate is not meant to be a “build once, deploy everywhere” solution, but instead offers a set of best front-end (markup, CSS) practices for mobile Web developers to utilize in order to leverage the features of high-end smartphones like those running Android or the iPhone, for example, while still providing some basic support for older Web browsers.Interested developers can learn more by visiting http://html5boilerplate.com/mobile/.And for more inspiration, there’s a thread on Quora listing several good examples of HTML5 mobile websites here.center_img What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Related Posts HTML5 offline caching for smartphonesHide URL bar to maximize screen areaButton clicks that don’t wait for the default 300ms delayed click eventTextarea autogrowHide Safari browser chromeMobile bookmark bubbleBrowser Database Wrapper APIRobust optional User Agent Detection in .htaccessMobile optimized default CSSMedia queries polyfill for Windows MobileGoogle Analytics for low end mobile devicesVersion 1.0 of the toolkit offers two different downloads – the documented version with hints and links and the comment-free version. Once illegal settlers now these 4 lakh voters being wooed by all

first_imgGurugram: On a petition filed by Defence Minister, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered that 900 metres around the Indian Air Force depot were illegal. It was later reduced to 300 metres by the court after politicians from all parties highlighted that how it would be difficult to accommodate the four lakh people who are settled around the area.Subsequently after court’s permission, some of the houses were also given electricity and water connections. Various houses and shops in the Sheetla colony being sealed, a situation that has not gone well with thousands of residents residing in the area. What, however, generated controversy was the sealing of a mosque last year which after hue and cry was made to function. On his recent visit, Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh minced no word in highlighting that irregularities were maintained by the officials giving licences to the people around the ammunition depot. He also, however, highlighted that now since the people were settled, their interests had to be taken care of. Not only the Airforce station but even an Army cantonment area that is located few kilometres away face the similar challenges. On the repeated complaints by Defence personnel, a plea was filed seeking the intervention of judiciary into the matter. The real estate development over the years has led to unchecked rise in the commercial establishments. The presence of the Maruti Suzuki factory further expedited the real estate development. Automobile garages, wedding banquet halls, marble market and various consumer showrooms began to be set up in the vast swathes of land around the Defence land. The issue has been in controversy for long where various prominent citizens including the sitting MLA Umesh Aggarwal has advocated of the relocation of the Airforce station. Cong questions EC for suspending its Odisha official asks what was in

first_imgNew Delhi: The Congress on Thursday questioned the Election Commission order suspending a high-ranking poll official deputed to Odisha for allegedly checking the prime minister’s chopper and said EC rules “do not exempt” PM’s vehicle from being checked. The opposition party accused the EC of “bias” after it suspended Karnataka cadre IAS officer Mohammed Mohsin for what the poll panel said was “dereliction of duty” with regard to “SPG protectees”. Also Read – India gets first tranche of Swiss bank a/c details The Congress also wondered what Modi was carrying in his helicopter that he did not want India to see. “An official was suspended by ECI for doing his job of inspecting vehicles. The rule cited governs the use of official vehicles for campaigning. It DOES NOT exempt PM’s vehicle from being searched,” the Congress said on its official Twitter handle. “What is Modi carrying in the helicopter that he doesn’t want India to see?” it added. The Congress said instead of checking all flights of leaders, the EC was acting against its officials. Also Read – Tourists to be allowed in J&K from Thursday “After the case of the mysterious box being moved from Modi’s chopper, we’d have expected the Election Commission of India to investigate every flight. “But suspending an official who did this reeks of bias,” the party said in another tweet. According to an EC order, IAS officer Mohsin was suspended for “actions contrary to the instructions of the Commission concerning SPG protectees” on April 16 the day SPG-protectee Prime Minister Modi visited Sambalpur in Odisha to address an election rally. “There have been instances where during polls EC was allowed to check convoys of both current & the former Congress President. SPG protectees can’t be frisked personally. Why suspend an officer for checking PM’s chopper? What message is being sent? Law is special for some?” senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel tweeted.last_img read more

Boeing 737 Max 8 woes crimp Asian airlines growth plans

first_imgSingapore: Asian airlines are cutting routes, revamping their schedules and leasing extra aircraft to fill gaps left by the grounding of Boeing 737 Max 8s after deadly crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia killed 346 people. So far, regional carriers have managed to avoid major disruptions, but analysts expect that idling the Max 8s, a fuel-efficient update of Boeing’s popular 737, will crimp growth plans in the near future. As investigations into the crashes continue, Boeing anticipates a $1 billion increase in costs related to the 737 Max, including fixing software implicated in the disasters, adding pilot training and compensating airlines and families of crash victims. Also Read – Commercial vehicle sales to remain subdued in current fiscal: IcraInvestigators are examining the role of flight-control software that pushed the planes’ noses down based on faulty sensor readings. Nearly 400 Max jets were grounded at airlines worldwide in mid-March after the Ethiopia crash. In Asia, where air passenger traffic is growing the fastest, the groundings are pushing airlines’ costs higher at a time of rising fuel prices, squeezing carriers’ profits. Chinese airlines had 96 Max 8 jets but have managed to avoid massive cancellations by swapping in other models of aircraft, said Kelvin Lau of Daiwa Capital Markets in Hong Kong. Also Read – Ashok Leyland stock tanks over 5 pc as co plans to suspend production for up to 15 days”However, this may limit their capacity growth for the coming peak season,” he added. China Southern Airlines, which has 25 Max 8 jets, will likely revise its targeted growth for passenger capacity, he said. Indonesian carrier Lion Air, whose Flight 610 disappeared into the sea shortly after takeoff from Jakarta, killing 189 people, said Friday in a statement that it was “operating normally by minimizing the impact” from the grounding of its 10 Max 8 jets. “Lion Air continues to serve routes that have been operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 by replacing them using other Lion Air fleets,” spokesman Danang Mandala Prihantoro said in a statement. India’s SpiceJet has said it would lease 22 Boeing 737-800NG aircraft, nine of which are already in service. The carrier said it also will deploy five Bombardier Q400 aircraft. “The new inductions will not just bring down flight cancellations to nil but also help in SpiceJet’s aggressive international and domestic expansion plans,” chairman and managing director Ajay Singh said in a statement. Not all carriers, even those without Max 8s, have managed as well. Budget carrier Scoot, which is owned by Singapore Airlines, announced that it would suspend services between Singapore and four cities, with the first suspension starting from June. The routes were served by the Airbus A320. Scoot, which does not have any Max 8 jets, said in a statement that the cuts were “due to a combination of weak demand and a shortage of aircraft resources.” “The aircraft shortage is arising as SilkAir, due to the grounding of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet, will no longer transfer its Boeing 737-800NG aircraft to Scoot in the financial year 2019/2020,” it said. SilkAir, the regional arm of Singapore Airlines, withdrew its six Max 8 jets from service on March 12, and its parent carrier has reassessed its capacity and fleet, opting to have Scoot grow more slowly, said Brendan Sobie of aviation consultancy CAPA. Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg recently said the company was nearly finished an update to the Max that “will make the airplane even safer.” But given the concerns that deepened with the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines Max 8 on March 10, it’s unclear when the update will be deployed and how long it will take for aviation regulators and airlines to decide it’s safe for the aircraft to resume operations. That’s a hardship for carriers, especially during the peak summer travel season. “Airlines don’t know exactly when the Max will be back in service. This makes it a little difficult to plan, even though there is some flexibility within their fleets,” Sobie said.last_img read more
